Storing lyophilized peptides: temperature, light and moisture

Simple storage rules that keep research peptides within specification for longer.

Lyophilization removes water to slow degradation, but storage still matters. Three factors do most of the damage: heat, light and moisture.

Temperature

For long-term storage keep sealed vials at -20°C. Short periods at room temperature — such as during shipping — are generally tolerated by lyophilized peptides, but avoid repeated warming and cooling.

Moisture

Freeze-dried powder readily absorbs water from the air. Always let a cold vial reach room temperature before opening, and close it promptly. Desiccant in the storage container adds a further layer of protection.

Light

Some residues are light-sensitive. Store vials in their box or an opaque container.

After reconstitution

  • Refrigerate at 2–8°C
  • Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles; aliquot if needed
  • Record the preparation date on the label

Storage recommendations for each compound are listed in the Compound Information section of its product page.
